ONCE UPON A MATTRESS

 

THOUSAND OAKS, CA – Young Artists Ensemble presents ONCE UPON A MATTRESS directed by Laura Mason with Musical Direction by Susan Treworgy-Calkins at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 West Hillcrest Drive. Performances are Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays November 2 - 18, 2018.  This musical comedy adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Princess and the Pea has music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer.

           ONCE UPON A MATTRESS will warm hearts and tickle funny bones, as the audience cheers for an untraditional princess from the swamp as she tosses and turns all night because of one little pea.  Will the whole kingdom find their happily-ever-after in the morning?

            ONCE UPON A MATTRESS is the first production in Young Artists Ensemble’s 38th Annual Family Theatre Season.  The “Season of Unexpected Magic” will continue with THE LITTLE PRINCE performing February 1 – 17, 2019 and will conclude with DINSEY AND CAMERON MACKINTOSH’S MARY POPPINS, JR. May 3-19, 2019.  Season tickets can be purchased at a deep discount by contacting the box office at (805) 381-1246 or www.yaeonline.com  Single Tickets are $19 adults, $16 children, students and seniors. 10% discount for groups of ten or more for a single performance.  Season tickets for all three shows are $30 - 39 adults, $30 - $33 children, students and seniors. 

Young Artists Ensemble received 19 nominations and four wins for their 2017-19 Productions.  Winners in the 13th Annual National Youth Arts Awards included Outstanding Production: Grease, Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical: Nick Meyer as Danny Zuko in Grease, Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Musical:Kristen Wisneski as Marty in Grease, and Outstanding Musical Direction: Zachary Spencer for Grease.  Among the many nominees were performers and creative staff from Hillcrest Players Productions Shadow of a Pout and If the Shoe Fits, and Young Artists Ensemble’s production of Madagascar, Jr.
