YOUNG ARTISTS ENSEMBLE Presents SHREK Jr. THE MUSICAL
THOUSAND OAKS, CA – Young Artists Ensemble presents SHREK Jr. THE MUSICAL directed by Andrea Tate with Musical Direction by Susan Treworgy-Calkins, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays November 4 - 20, 2016 at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 West Hillcrest Drive. Shrek, Jr., The Musical is based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the Book by William Steig. The Musical’s Book and Lyrics are by David Lindsay-Abaire with Music by Jeanine Tesori. A mass of fairytale misfits set everyone’s favorite loner ogre, Shrek, off on a journey to rescue a feisty princess, defeat a diminutive despot, and relocate the banished fable-folk out of his swamp. "Even though Shrek Jr. is set in a storybook with fairytale characters, it deals with the human issues of bullying, friendship, judgement, and perseverance,” says director Andrea Tate. “In today's society, we can't get enough stories like Shrek which encourage people not to judge a book by its cover. Although Shrek has hidden himself from the world, it is friendship and community that motivates positive change. Shrek is a story of rising above judgement, and discovering that together we are stronger." SHREK, Jr. THE MUSICAL is the first production in Young Artists Ensemble’s 36th Annual Family Theatre Season. The Season of Other Worlds will continue with Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID, Jr. performing February 4 – 19, 2017 and will conclude with ALICE IN WONDERLAND May 5-21, 2017. The Little Mermaid is also a part of the award-winning Conejo Theatre For Everyone, teaming up YAE kids and performers with special needs for a unique theatrical experience. WHAT: ALICE IN WONDERLAND Mad-cap Adventures Through a Wild and Whirling World! Down the rabbit-hole goes young Alice and into a mad, mad world. She must use her wits to navigate through the likes of the Queen of Hearts, Mad-Hatter, Cheshire Cat, Caterpillar, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, and many more in this wonderfully enjoyable play.
