Fall Semester includes Theater Skills Building Classes and  More Musical Performance Workshops

New York, NY, July 20, 2006: TADA!—“the city’s best-known children’s musical theater” (Time Out New York)—announces its Fall 2006 semester of acclaimed classes including new offerings in Skills Building classes and more intensive Performance Workshops. Classes are held at TADA! (15 W. 28th St. bet. Fifth and Broadway), and classes meet once a week on weekends and after school on Mondays and Tuesdays from September 25 through December 17. The 11-week semester concludes with a sharing/presentation of songs and scenes for family and friends. For more information, call (212) 252-1619 or visit www.tadatheater.com. Prices vary from $200-$325 depending on the class. Need-based scholarships are available. Closest subway is N, R to 28th Street. (Also, the B, D, F, V, N, Q, R, W trains or PATH train to Herald Square/34th Street; 6 train to 28th Street; and 1 train to 28th Street.)

New Skills Building Classes this year include Broadway Dance Styles (Grades 3-8); Audition Techniques (Grades 5-9) and Musical Theater Intensive (Teens). New Performance Workshops include Musical Theater Performance (Grades 3-6).

The popular Year-long Musical Theater Workshop also returns after more than 45 students auditioned for 24 spots last year. This class (Grades 4-10) runs September 2006 to May 2007 on Sundays from 10 a.m.-Noon. Auditions for this class will be Monday, September 12 at 5 pm. Directed by a two professional TADA! artists, students write the libretto (script) and original musical numbers to be performed on TADA!’s own Off-Broadway stage. Students learn playwriting and musical composition as they rehearse and perform an original musical that they create.

TADA! provides kids with exciting and fulfilling theatrical experiences-both on stage and off. Classes engage students in dramatically fun activities including musical numbers from Broadway and TADA! original shows, dance and creative movement, and improvisational games and acting exercises. In addition to providing a venue for creative and artistic expression, TADA! encourages kids to develop focus, discipline, teamwork and self-esteem in a positive, nurturing environment. All TADA! teaching artists are working professional artists equally committed to youth and theater. These artists are versed in TADA!’s artistic and educational approach and philosophy through extensive training and workshops. To ensure the quality of the musical and movement components, all musical classes are taught by two teaching artists (a music director and a choreographer/director).

About TADA! and TADA!’s Mission

Co-founded in 1984 by Janine Nina Trevens and Linda Reiff, TADA! is a unique, non-profit, 501 (c)3 youth theater that produces original musicals performed by New York City kids ages 8-18 for family audiences; a year-round Resident Youth Ensemble of NYC kids ages 8-18; renowned education programs in public schools; on-site theater classes for all ages, and an annual one-act playwriting contest and staged reading series geared towards teen actors and audiences. Former TADA! performers include Ricki Lake (TV talk-show host and film actress), Jordan Peele (Mad TV), Josh Peck(Nickelodeon’s “Drake and Josh”) and Christina Vidal (film “Freaky Friday”). TADA! provides young people of different backgrounds the opportunity to explore and perform theatre together in an educational, supportive, and professional environment. TADA! introduces musical theater to children through performances and classes, thereby creating theater artists and audiences for the future. Young people gain self-confidence and learn commitment, responsibility, communication and teamwork, for these skills are critical to young people’s success both in school and in life.
