“Expecting a Hit!”

"Legally Blonde-the Musical"  comes to

Mesa Arts Center November 20-24, 2013

Gilbert AZ--  As Gilbert's award winning Studio 3 Performing Arts rehearses for “Legally Blonde- the Musical,” there are bigger questions than whether Elle will pass the LSAT, get into Harvard Law School and get Warner back.   The cast wants to know...will it be a boy or a girl, and will she make it to opening night?

They're wondering about Emma England, the show’s artistic director. England, who is 8 months pregnant, is busy in her roles as choreographer and music director while also directing set and costume design along with director Marcus Smith.    The fan-favorite musical, based on the hit movie starring Reese Witherspoon, is demanding, with bouncy songs like “Bend and Snap,” “What You Want, “and “Whipped Into Shape,” but the pace won’t stop England.  She just won 2012-13 National Youth Arts Awards for Choreography for Studio 3’s productions of “The Little Mermaid Jr.,”  “High School Musical,” “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” “ Once on this Island,” “ Thoroughly Modern Millie” and “Little Shop of Horrors,” and a Costume Design award shared with Kari Hansen for “Little Mermaid.”

“This baby won’t slow me down one bit!” England says.  “I look forward to coming to rehearsal because the cast is so high energy and willing to work hard. They say exercise is vital to a healthy pregnancy, and these kids definitely keep me on my toes! Right now, we’re just hoping the baby is on time so I don’t miss final tech and opening night.”

In “Legally Blonde-the Musical,” Jessica Sinodis stars as Elle Woods, the UCLA sorority girl turned aspiring law student who chases her boyfriend to Harvard.  Jessica was recently nominated for a National Youth Arts Award for her portrayal of Ursula in Studio 3’s production of “The Little Mermaid.” Other cast members include Luke Ottinger (Warner Huntington III), Mackenna Goodrich (Paulette), Jonah Carlson (Professor Callahan), and Donovan Fiore (Emmett Smith).

Legally Blonde has some mature subject matter but Studio 3 is making sure everyone will be able to be in the pink with Elle and everyone’s favorite dog, Bruiser.  Some of the song lyrics will be slightly adjusted to ensure the show is appropriate for all ages.

Don't miss “Legally Blonde-the Musical” at Mesa Arts Center, Wed-Sun. Nov. 20-24.  Showtimes are 6:30 pm Wed.-Sat. with Matinee shows at 2:30 on Saturday and Sunday.  Tickets are $13-15 and now on sale thru the Mesa Arts Center box office and at Studio 3, 511 W. Guadalupe Rd., Gilbert, AZ.
