San Diego Junior Theatre Announces New Artistic Director

The nation’s oldest youth theatre, San Diego Junior Theatre, announced today the selection of Rayme Sciaroni as its new Artistic Director. Sciaroni is an accomplished author, composer, and lyricist with additional teaching and directing experience. He will join the company in mid-March.

“I couldn't be more excited in being appointed Artistic Director for San Diego Junior Theatre,” he says. “Having directed several successful shows in the past few years for the organization as well as teaching classes and workshops, I am grateful to be put in a position where I can continue to inspire young San Diegans to follow their passions in many different aspects of performing arts.”

A San Diego resident for over fourteen years and a child prodigy pianist himself, Sciaroni earned a degree in composition form the Neupaur Conservatory in Philadelphia, followed by acceptance into the BMI Music Theatre Workshop in New York City as a composer and lyricist. He was subsequently accepted into the ASCAP Music Theatre Workshop followed by the prestigious New Dramatists. In addition to San Diego Junior Theatre, he has directed and co-directed at the Lyceum, Diversionary Theatre and the North Coast Repertory Theatre.

Working with top theatrical talent in the industry, Sciaroni has accompanied great artists such as John Denver and Kenny Loggins and headlined in several cabaret shows from  New York to California. His original holiday songs have been performed by members of the Lawrence Welk Show at the Lawrence Welk Theatre and by the San Diego Men’s Chorus.

Sciaroni is no stranger to the field of education. He has taught performing arts and art classes in New York City and in schools throughout San Diego County.

San Diego Junior Theatre is committed to the region’s youth of all abilities by encouraging the development of their creativity, self-esteem and enjoyment of theatre arts. Year round, its professional staff teaches and guides students in stage productions, camps and classes.
