Remembering August Wilson

SCPA students are performing excerpts of plays written by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, August Wilson.  Under the direction of guest artist Sandi McCree (HBO's The Wire) SCPA's capstone theatre students perform scenes and monologues by America's greatest African-American playwright.  The works featured are Mr. Wilson's plays Gem of the Ocean, Two Trains Running, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, The Piano Lesson, and the American classic Fences.

The show runs March, 10-12 and 17-19 at 7pm and March 12 & 19 at 2pm in the SCPA Little Theatre.  The run time is one hour and 10 minutes followed by a 15 minute Talk-Back with the audience and actors after each performance.  Tickets are only $4 and are available at the Box Office one hour prior to the performance.  Please visit our website at www.scpa.sandi.net or for more information contact Amy Blatt at the Box Office at 619-475-8556.

Who was August Wilson?  August Wilson is one of America's most respected, powerful, and contemporary playwrights who collected two Pulitzer Prizes and several Tony Awards.  Wilson unveils the history of the 20th Century through the souls of African-Americans in his ten play series beginning in the 1900s.  Wilson is the only playwright with the success of having ten plays produced on Broadway and one Off-Broadway.
