Award-Winning Theatre Department Presents a Prequel to the Beloved “Peter Pan”

Santa Susana High School’s award-winning theatre department presents its next show of the year. “Peter and the Starcatcher” will be playing in the high school’s Performing Arts Center (PAC) from March 5th - 7th at select times (See Below).

The show is a prequel to the beloved children’s story, “Peter Pan,” and will easily capture the hearts of families of all ages. “I’m excited for audiences to see a new way of storytelling. We’ve entrusted our actors not only to play the characters- but to become the world itself,” says Mitra Hooshmandi, Student Director and Senior at Santa Susana High School. Her, along with advisor Artur Cybulski, are helming this production and its thrilling adventure into the time before Neverland.

Artur Cybulski is an award-winning actor, who is also a frequent workshop leader at drama festivals around the country. He has appeared in many features, including THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, as well as numerous television programs. A veteran of over fifty plays, Artur was also a producer with various theatre companies. This included THE COAST PLAYHOUSE in West Hollywood and Theater Geo, where he was a Founder, Managing Director, and Assistant Producer. For the past few years, Artur has taught at Nobel Middle School until he was hired as the new Theatre Department Director in August due to Melissa Albertson’s retirement.

“Peter and the Starcatcher” tell the humorous and fantastical backstory of beloved characters Peter Pan and his arch-nemesis Captain Hook. At the start of this wickedly smart play, we meet a poor orphaned child on the high seas (simply called Boy). His sad and lonely world is turned upside down when he meets Molly. The daughter of famous Starcatcher Lord Aster, she is on a mission to save the world and protect a treasure trunk filled with magical star stuff from getting into the hands of the evil and greedy pirate, Black Stache. As they travel aboard the Neverland ship headed for a faraway land, Molly and Boy learn about love, friendship and forge an unbreakable bond.

“Peter and the Starcatcher” plays March 6th & 7th at 7:00 PM, with tickets priced at $16. A select student show has been added on March 5th, with a discounted ticket price of $12 (with a valid student ID).
