The Hills are Alive with The Sound of Music

Presented by the students and families of Riverside Youth Theatre

www.RiversideYouthTheatre.org

Based on a true story, The Sound of Music, is the retelling of the von Trapp Family singers, with music from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s final collaberation, including favorite songs “My Favorite Things,” “Do Re Mi,” and “Climb Every Mountain.”  Audiences love the classic story of Maria and the von Trapp family.

The story begins when Maria, a young postulant at the Nonnberg Abbey, is struggling to live a strict religious lifestyle, when her personality favors freedom.  Maria is sent by Mother Abbess to be the governess to Captain von Trapp’s seven troublesome children.  Unlike previous governesses, Maria connects with the children through a love of music and singing.  The strick Captain softens over time, falling in love with Maria.  When the Nazis invade Austria, the von Trapp family is forced to flee.

The Sound of Music features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and a book by Russel Crouse and Howard Lindsay.

RYT’s production features Ryan Cohen as Captain von Trapp, Hannah Wolgemuth as Maria Rainer and Diana Salvati as Mother Abbess.  The von Trapp Family Singers include Cameron Cash as Liesl, Henry Bush as Frederich, Jenna McConnell as Louisa, Spencer Sharp as Kurt, Lauren Bullock as Brigitta, Alexis Bullock as Marta and Joelle McConnell as Gretl.  RYT’s The Sound of Musicfeatures direction by Debbie Wolgemuth, music direction by Janine McConnell, and choreography by Radames & Stacey Montes.
