Riverside Youth Theatre Presents

Into the Woods and Into the Woods Jr. in Repertory

Debbie Wolgemuth, Artistic Director

Riverside Youth Theatre starts off its 12th season with two contemporary musicals presented in repertory:  Into the Woods and Into the Woods Junior.

Into the Woods is a two act Broadway musical, rated PG, one of Stephen Sondheim’s most popular and timeless contemporary works.  This is a fractured fairy tale with an ambivalent Cinderella, a blood-thirsty Little Red Ridinghood and a Witch who raps.  When a Baker and his Wife learn they’ve been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a desperate quest to obtain the special objects required to break the spell.  All the fairy tale character’s wishes are granted at the end of Act One, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, some with disastrous results.  Into the Woods is a lively fantasy in the style of The Princess Bride which serves as a lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.  Our cast features students from 12-20 years with direction by Debbie Wolgemuth and Music Direction by Sarah Horn.

Into the Woods Junior is a One Act version of the Broadway musical, is rated G and is 1 ½ hours in length.  Into the Woods Junior is a cockeyed fairy tale where all of your favorite characters – Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (from the beanstalk) and The Witch – meet and interact in the Woods.  Into the Woods Junior is a funny and engaging way to get young performers to think about the stories which they’ve grown up with and the ethical issues raised in them.  The Junior cast features students from 6-12 years and is directed by high school students, Hannah Wolgemuth and Audrey Cella.

Both musicals will be performed on:
