Musical Theatre of Anthem Announces 2014-15 Season

 

Anthem, Ariz., March 1, 2014 – Musical Theatre of Anthem (MTA) is proud to announce their 2014-2015 season, with an exciting line-up of award-winning musicals, a straight play and a holiday show.  MTA will produce eight shows offering tremendous opportunities for performers of all ages, including no-cut productions for performers ages 6-19.  “Next season offers something for everyone, from Disney to Anne Frank to CATS,” said Jackie Hammond, MTA’s Producing Artistic Director.  “We are producing more complicated and challenging shows because the level of talent of the cast members is growing exponentially.

 

MTA’s 2014-15 Season:

 “Into the Woods” (ages 14-adult; no-cut for ages 14-19)

October 9-12
James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and brings them together for a timeless yet relevant piece and rare modern classic in Into the Woods. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.
 

Charlotte's Web” (no-cut for ages 10-13)

October 16-19

This exciting, new musical version of Charlotte's Web brings a new dimension to E.B. White's beloved classic. Welcome to the Zuckerman Barn, featuring all the story's unforgettable animals in this fun-filled musical which offers your audiences a very special experience.  

Magic Tree House: Dinosaurs Before Dark KIDS (no-cut for ages 6-9)

November 6-9
What would you do if a tree house in your neighborhood could transport you anywhere you wanted to go? While exploring one afternoon, siblings Jack and Annie discover a tree house full of books. Jack looks through a book about dinosaurs and wishes he could see a real one. Suddenly the wind begins to blow and the tree house starts to spin wildly. When it finally stops, Jack and Annie open their eyes to find they have been transported back to the time of the dinosaurs. Join Jack and Annie on their adventure back in time to experience an amazing group of dinosaurs face to face. Magic Tree House: Dinosaurs Before Dark KIDS is an adaptation of the first of Mary Pope Osborne's award-winning, New York Times bestsellers, fantasy adventure books from the Magic Tree House book series.
 

“The Diary of Anne Frank” (ages 13-adult)
January 8-11, 2015

The Diary of Anne Frank by Wendy Kesselman, from the original stage play by Goodrich and Hackett, newly discovered writings from the diary of Anne Frank, as well as survivor accounts, are interwoven to create a contemporary impassioned story of the lives of people persecuted under Nazi rule. This is an adaptation for a new generation able to confront the true horrors of the Holocaust.  

“Disney's The Sleeping Beauty KIDS  (no-cut for ages 6-9)
February 19-22, 2015
It's Princess Aurora's sixteenth birthday, and three fairies – Flora, Fauna and Merryweather – must use their magic to save her from the spell of evil sorceress Maleficent! This classic fairy tale comes to life in Disney's The Sleeping Beauty KIDS.  

“CATS” (no-cut for ages 10-19)

 March 5-8, 2015
Based on the universally popular poetry of T.S. Eliot, CATS tells the story, in song and dance, of the annual gathering of Jellicle cats at which time one special cat is selected to ascend to the Heaviside layer. It is a true musical theatre phenomenon!  

“The Wizard of Oz” (no-cut for ages 6-13)

April 30-May 17, 2015

Arguably the most popular story of all time, The Wizard of Oz will be double cast because of its extended run. Each cast will do 8 shows over two weekends. Little Dorothy Gale of Kansas, like so many girls her age, dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away over the rainbow to another world. Come join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion and Toto as they travel the universe of Dorothy's imagination.  

To Be Announced (ages 14-adult; no-cut for ages 14-19)

May 21-24, 2015
This show is not TBD, but rather TBA (To Be Announced). MTA has secured the rights to a blockbuster, Broadway show, but because of its popularity and the difficulty in securing the rights to perform it, we are not allowed to announce it until our Benefit in March 2015. Be assured though, that this show is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be in!  

Also included in the season is a Holiday Show in December and MTA’s annual Fundraiser Benefit show to be held March 20, 2015.  In addition to 8 plus shows next season, MTA will continue to offer audition preparation workshops, acting intensive classes, a full summer program, and zumba classes.  MTA also offers MTA Minis, six week sessions for ages 3-5 with themes such as Disney and Broadway. All shows take place at MTA’s theatre at 42323 N. Vision Way, Anthem, AZ  85086.  Reserved seating tickets may be purchased online at www.musicaltheatreofanthem.org.  Adult tickets are $18 and Students, Seniors and Children 12 and under are $15.
