KIDS ON STAGE PICKS UP TWO NATIONAL YOUTH THEATRE AWARDS  

Bronx, New York (August 15, 2010) – Kids On Stage, a local children’s theatre company, received two awards from National Youth Theatre at the Eastern Regional Ceremony held on Sunday, August 15.  The ceremony was held at the Riverdale YM-YWHA theatre in Bronx, New York.  Allie Hoyt, from Niles, travelled to New York to receive an award for Outstanding Lead Actress In a Musical for her performance as Millie in the Kids On Stage production of Thoroughly Modern Millie.  Ms. Hoyt is a graduate of Niles High School and will be attending Hope College this fall.  Traveling with her was Alyson Snyder, a senior at Lakeshore High School.  Alyson represented the entire cast of Thoroughly Modern Millie in receiving an award for Outstanding Ensemble.  “Accepting our Thoroughly Modern Millie awards was awesome,” Alyson said.  “Kids On Stage has boosted my confidence level way up. It has really helped and inspired me to pursue my dreams in music theatre.”   

National Youth Theatre was developed to support, inspire, give feedback, and encourage the youth theatre community of America.  NYT considered more than 200 productions for the awards, including shows from more than 100 different theatres in more than 50 cities spanning 15 states. The award winners were selected from nominations by a panel of eighteen judges and reviewers.  

Kids On Stage is a values driven opportunity for school age kids to grow in self-confidence and communication skills through the preparation and performance of high quality musical productions.  Through this process children learn fundamentals of practical theatre, vocal projection, stage presence, basic choreography and make-up.  The company is owned and directed by Doug Fordyce.  Kids On Stage is currently accepting registrations for their spring production of Disney’s Beauty and The Beast Jr.  Those wishing to register can contact Mr. Fordyce by emailing doug@dougskidsonstage.com or by calling 269 313-2795.  Registrations are being accepted through September 11.
