J*COMPANY Presents Disney’s MULAN,

This time, the princess saves the prince…

LA JOLLA, CA – The award-winning J*Company Youth Theatre, a program of the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, JACOBS FAMILY CAMPUS, is pleased to announce its production of Disney’s MULAN.  Performances run September 17 – October 2, 2011 at the David and Dorothea Garfield Theatre.

A cast of 83 will tell this Chinese fable full of daring action and hilarious characters, Fa Mulan, the only daughter of an aged warrior, challenges society’s expectations by taking her father's place —stealing her father’s conscription notice, cutting her hair, and impersonating a man to join the army countering a Hun invasion. Along with her guardian a dragon, a lucky cricket, assorted other companions, and some beautiful songs including “Reflection”, “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” and “A Girl Worth Fighting For”, she soon faces the Huns eye-to eye to protect her Emperor and becomes one of China ’s greatest heroes. Mulan celebrates honor, courage, and the importance of family.

J*Company Artistic Director, and Broadway Veteran, Joey Landwehr will be directing the production showcasing some stunning artistic vision.  Landwehr has worked extensively as an actor and director in New York City , both on and off Broadway, as well as in national tours and regional theatre.   He has studied under such instructors as: Betty Buckley, Marcel Marceau, Francis Sternhagen, F.
