ANNOUNCING THE 2005 – 2006 SEASON OF THE J*COMPANY


The award-winning J*Company youth theatre kicks off its 2005 – 2006 season with HENRY AND RAMONA, October 21 – 30, 2005, followed by GUYS AND DOLLS, March 3 – 19, 2006 and RUMPLESTILTSKIN, May 11 – 21, 2006 

The San Diego Center for Jewish Culture at the Lawrence Family Jewish 
Community Center, JACOBS FAMILY CAMPUS presents the 13th Season of the award-winning J*Company youth theatre in the David and Dorothea Garfield Theatre, Potiker Family Arts and Culture Complex at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, JACOBS FAMILY CAMPUS, 4126 Executive Drive in La Jolla. 

This year’s season kicks off with HENRY AND RAMONA, directed by talented Guest Director Lisa Drummond and Managing Director Aaron Huniu. Ms. Drummond has performed and directed throughout California. Some of her performing credits include Beehive (Theatre in Old Town), Festival of Christmas, Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Drood (Lambs Players Theatre). Her San Diego directing credits include Prince Brat, and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day at San Diego State University. Ms. Drummond holds a MFA degree in Musical Theatre from SDSU. Mr. Huniu holds a BA in Drama from UC Irvine and has performed in a variety of regional stage, TV and film productions. Most recently he was Cruise Director for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.

Based on the beloved book by Beverly Cleary, HENRY AND RAMONA, October 21 – 30, is a hilarious play about 10-year old Henry Huggins, who wants to do something important: he wants to deliver newspapers, but first he has to prove he can handle the responsibility. That’s not easy with Ramona Quimby around. Henry and his friends form a “No Girls Allowed” clubhouse, but Henry’s friendships are tested when the girls wreak their comical revenge. Weekend, evening and matinee performances will run October 21st – October 30th, 2005. 

“J*Company continues to foster the most amazing kids in this region through song, dance and acting,” says Managing Director Aaron Huniu. “We give them a chance to perform in a professional theatre with San Diego’s top designers and directors. We are pulling out all the stops to entertain audiences of all ages and keep them coming back for more.” 

The second production of the J*Company season is hit musical GUYS AND DOLLS with Guest Director Rayme Sciaroni, March 3 – 19, 2006. This oddball romantic comedy is considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy. It soars in the spirit of Broadway with memorable songs like; Bushel and a Peck, Take Back Your Mink, If I Were a Bell, Luck Be A Lady and Sit Down Your Rockin’ the Boat. Auditions will be held on Tues., January 3, 4 – 6 p.m. (callbacks Thurs., January 5, 4 – 6 p.m.); ages 12 – 18 may audition.

RUMPLESTILTSKIN, an original new musical version of this classic children’s tale, with Guest Director Jason Heil, will close out the J*Company season on May 12 - 21, 2006. Audiences can participate in the fun when the beautiful Katharine tries to outwit the mysterious and unpredictable Rumplestiltskin. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 4 – 6 p.m. and Wednesday, March 22, 4 – 6 p.m. (callbacks Thursday, March 23, 4 – 6 p.m.); ages 7 – 13 may audition.
