Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s School of Theatre Training Presents OnStage 2009 from May 15-17

Students from Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s School of Theatre Training will perform four professionally produced shows in one jam-packed weekend of theatre as OnStage 2009 takes over ImaginOn from May 15-17. OnStage 2009 performances will include the Shakespearean comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” the fairy tale musical “Into the Woods,” the magical folktale “Seagirl” and the heart-warming story “İBocón!”

OnStage is a hands-on performance project open to participants in the year-long School of Theatre Training Program . OnStage gives students the unique opportunity to be part of a theatrical piece fully produced by the professional production and education staff of Children’s Theatre.

One of Shakespeare’s earliest comedies, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is an enchanting story of love, mistaken identities and fairy antics. Two couples meet trouble with the cunning fairies of the forest and Oberon, King of the Fairies, must take matters into his own wings to stop the madness.

Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and the Witch join each other on stage for “Into the Woods,” a musical that intertwines well-known fairy tales to create a surprisingly new story. “Into the Woods” takes its character’s familiar tales to the next step and explores the true meaning of “living happily ever after.”

“Seagirl” is a tale of courage and friendship. A young girl overcomes her fears to save her village from the powerful Dragon King who has cast a spell so that no water can reach the village. Seagirl sets out on a quest to break the spell and learns many lessons on the way.

“İBocón!” tells the story of twelve-year-old Miguel who flees an oppressive military regime in Central America for Los Angeles , the city of Angels . Told with humor, mysticism and song, Miguel’s story echoes those of immigrant children all over the world, and is relevant to anyone learning what it means to find his or her own voice.

Performances of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “Into the Woods”, and “İBocón!” will be held in the McColl Family Theatre, while performances of “Seagirl” will be held in the Wachovia Playhouse. Performance times are as follows:
