Children’s Theatre of Charlotte Presents “The Commedia Robin Hood”

Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s Tarradiddle Players bring the legend of Robin Hood and his merry men to life in “The Commedia Robin Hood” (May 4-20). Performed in the style of Commedia dell’arte, the production uses farce and slapstick to give this timeless tale a hilarious new twist.

With just a few quick costume and prop changes, four actors recreate the adventures of the English outlaw who robs from the rich to give to the poor. Audiences will cheer for Robin Hood as he battles Little John on the bridge, makes friends with the loveably droll Friar Tuck, and outwits the bumbling Sheriff of Nottingham, all in order to win the heart of the lovely Maid Marion. Playwright Lane Riosley’s series of “Commedia” plays are a beloved part of the Tarradiddle repertoire, and “The Commedia Robin Hood” is a delightfully silly introduction to a classic story.

“This version of the Robin Hood legend pays tribute to comedy,” comments director Jill Bloede. “The production steals from the rich humor of sixteenth century Italian Commedia dell’arte and classic cartoons to give the audience a laugh-out loud experience.”

“The Commedia Robin Hood” stars the 2006-07 Tarradiddle Players company: Robby Fulton, Leslie Ann Giles, Chaz Pofahl, and Greta Marie Zandstra.
