Children’s Theatre of Charlotte Presents “Go, Dog. Go!”

Children’s Theatre of Charlotte is delighted to present “Go, Dog. Go!”, its largest production ever for ages 3 and up. The playful canines of P.D. Eastman’s classic book spring to life on the stage of the McColl Family Theatre from April 13-29.

The joyously simple story line and charmingly colorful illustrations of “Go, Dog. Go!” have made it a favorite of children, parents, and educators alike since its publication in 1961. Inspired by their daughter’s love of the book, renowned playwrights and husband-and-wife team Steven Dietz and Allison Gregory have created an adaptation that stays true to the spirit of P.D. Eastman’s work. Their script uses only words used in the original book, finding a gleeful world of surprise within the text.

The result is a festival of visual delight, as dogs of many colors skate, drive, sleep, work, play and party their way through a celebration of the joys of life. Dance, song, and circus-like antics mix together in a creatively staged, exuberant production that explores music, color, and space.

CTC’s Artistic Director Alan Poindexter, the director of “Go, Dog. Go!”, is excited about the scope of this production. “’Go, Dog. Go!’ celebrates life’s small moments in a very big way, reminding us of the importance of play and having fun,” he commented. “This show will truly be engaging for ages 3 through 93.”

The professional cast of “Go, Dog. Go!” features some of Charlotte’s best known talent, including Jill Bloede, Laura Depta, Matt Cosper, Scott Helm, Sidney Horton, Steven Ivey, Tanya McClellan, Susan Roberts Knowlson, Mark Sutton, and Barbi VanSchaick. In the roles of doggie musicians, Gina Stewart, Brenda Gambill and Allison Modafferi, of the Charlotte band Volatile Baby, perform the production’s live music onstage.
