Children’s Theatre of Charlotte Presents “Ferdinand the Bull”

Children’s Theatre’s Resident Touring Company, the Tarradiddle Players, begins its season in the Wachovia Playhouse with “Ferdinand the Bull”, a fresh take on the beloved children’s book by Munro Leaf. This fun-filled, flamenco-flavored adaptation tells the story of a bull and a boy who find the courage to follow their own hearts and dreams.

A large but gentle bull, Ferdinand would rather play with butterflies and smell his beloved flowers than fight in the bull ring. Duquito Danilo dreams of becoming an elegant dancer instead of a matador. But when Danilo’s father, the belligerent Duque Dodo, comes looking for the toughest bull in all of Spain for his son to fight, he mistakenly picks Ferdinand. With plenty of singing, dancing, and Spanish flair, “Ferdinand the Bull” is a lively romp that highlights the importance of being true to yourself.

“The thing that appeals to me most about this funny retelling of the Ferdinand story is that we can all relate to the central theme: feeling different than everyone else and coming to terms with our differences,” says Director Nicia Carla. “Ferdinand accepts his own differences without question, whereas some of the other characters need his example to find the courage to be who they truly are.”

“Ferdinand the Bull” stars the 2006-07 Tarradiddle Players company: Robbie Fulton, Leslie Ann Giles, Chaz Pofahl, and Greta Marie Zandstra.
