Don’t Miss "Miss Nelson is Missing!" at Children’s Theatre

Children’s Theatre of Charlotte plays host to Miss Nelson and her rambunctious class in the witty, wacky musical adaptation of “Miss Nelson is Missing!”, April 8-23, 2005.  The original show’s run is sold out; performances have been added on April 22-23, 2005.

Everyone knows the kids in Room 207 are the worst kids in school. Their well-meaning, frazzled teacher, Miss Nelson, just can't get them to behave. One day, Miss Nelson doesn’t show up for school. Instead the kids meet Miss Viola Swamp, the meanest substitute in the whole wide world! She gives out way too much homework and never does story time. The kids in Room 207 are forced to shape up for Miss Swamp, but they begin to worry about Miss Nelson. It's been ten days with no sign of her, and when the students go to her house it becomes clear … Miss Nelson is missing!

As Miss Nelson’s first grade class learns, actions have consequences.  Good behavior is rewarded with story times, while troublemakers suffer Viola Swamp’s mountains of homework.  “Kids in the audience relish the class’s mischief,” remarks director Jill Bloede, “But they appreciate the happy ending.”  Audience members hearing the tale for the first time will be delighted by the final twist, while those already in the know will enjoy being “in” on the joke.

Based on the much-loved books by Harry Allard and James Marshall, this adaptation won the National Children’s Theatre Festival Award for Best Musical.  “This show presents the same challenge as last season's ‘Madeline’ - translating well-known and loved illustrations into the three dimensional world of the stage,” notes Bloede, “Designer Bob Croghan has truly brought the pages to life.”  Inhabiting Room 207 are some of Charlotte’s best known talent: Susan Roberts, Mark Sutton, Nicia Carla, Stephen Wall, Katie Lowther and Ashby Blakely.
