The Academy for the Performing Arts presents Our Town

April 26-29, 2012

The award winning Academy for the Performing Arts Theatre Department is very pleased to be able to present the classic of the American Theatre, Our Town.   Thornton Wilder won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1938 for his play that uses the story of a young couple falling in love in a small town in 1901 New Hampshire to let us look at the universal themes of life, love and death.

The large cast of over 50 actors features Zack Carlson as The Stage Manager who guides the audience through the highly theatrical yet simplistic look at Grover’s Corners at the turn of the century.  Garrett Brown and Marilee Jooste play George Gibbs and Emily Webb, two teenagers who fall in love and marry over the course of the play.   Bryce Miller and Sarah Ashley play Dr. and Mrs. Gibbs with Alex Jean and Cheyenne Derr as Mr. and Mrs. Webb the parents of the young couple who are very good friends.   Kaitlyn Glenn as Mrs. Soames and Braeden Miller as Simon Stinson bring two of the more interesting characters to life.

Live music will be provided by Stella Monshaw who won a Cappies award for playing for last year’s production of Tom Jones.  A very unique set is being designed by Tiffany Nguyuen.  The lighting design is by Quinn Owen and Danielle Watson with Danielle Kisner designing the sound.  The period costumes are being designed by Jordan-Marc Diamond, Oliva Ducharme, Jenna Lego and Monica Wilson.  Sharon Cowen has been coaching the church choir in the play.  Robert Rotenberry is directing the drama.

There will be four performances- Thursday through Saturday, April 26-28 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, April 29 at 2:00 pm in the Historic Huntington Beach High School Auditorium at 1905 Main Street; Huntington Beach, CA 92648.  Tickets are $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for students and senior citizens.  Seating is reserved.   For further information call 714) 536-2514 Ext. 4025 or visit www.hbapa.org
