NYA Alumni in 2016:
So Shine Some Bright Deeds in a Weary Year

The world lost a remarkable number of beloved and iconic artists in 2016 beginning with David Bowie and including Alan Rickman (Snape), Glen Fry (The Eagles), Maurice White (Earth, Wind & Fire), Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird), George Kennedy, Merle Haggard, Doris Roberts (Everybody Loves Raymond), Prince, Anton Yelchin (Star Trek), Garry Marshall, Gene Wilder, playwright Edward Albee, Florence Henderson (Mrs. Brady), Alan Thicke, Zsa Zsa Gabor, George Michael, and finally the back-to-back losses of Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds. We mourn their loss, but celebrate the lives they lived and all that they've inspired.

We also celebrate a year that saw so many young artists either beginning or continuing to make exciting splashes in the arts, including several former NYA award winners and nominees. Below are a few of those achievements that we know about so far (please email me if you have others). Congratulations to all!
